ReplyDelete1. What I just read reminds me of a book called Moon Over Manifest. In this book, the main character Abilene is left by her father much like Estrella is. Throughout the novel, Abilene spends time thinking of how her father is doing, where he is, and why he left. Estrella does this with her father too. Both novels deal with the topic of feeling abandoned by a parent in some form or fashion.
ReplyDelete2. What I just read reminds me of the period of time after my mother divorced my father. We moved from Missouri to Oklahoma, Oklahoma to Lewisville, Texas, and then to Dallas. Like Estrella, we spent a lot of time moving and my mother spent an even longer time trying to find a job. We even lived in a cheap motel for 2 months when we couldn't afford rent. While Estrella's experiences have their differences, we both have these things in common. In addition, Estrella's mother did try to work hard to provide for her children much like my mother did and still does.
3. What I just read makes me think of how in the past, people moved from all over the country to California for the gold rush. They traveled for long periods and worked long hours. Many people lived in poor conditions with large families and struggled to make a sufficient living. While many people did find gold, those who did not were stuck. This is much like in Under the Feet of Jesus where we see a large family traveling to find a way to make a living and struggling to make it by. While they definitely have their differences, the gold rush and this novel do have these similarities.

This book reminds me of the documentary called "Harvest" which is about Latino migrant children , farm workers that toil around the country picking crops, so despite the differences I connect Estrella, her brothers and sisters to those children
ReplyDeleteThis book relates to my grandpa due to the fact that he came to the United States to have better opportunities, money wise for his children which he left behind in Mexico, however when reality hit him he was stuck doing farm labor and moving around trying to make the most money possible, he was misled by the "American Dream" which is relatively related to Estrella and her family
After reading, it led me to think of the struggles migrant workers really live despite their daily hard work

ReplyDelete1.) The ideas in this text remind me of a Spanish novela called "Bajo el mismo Cielo" which is based on an undocumented Mexican named Carlos who's wife passed away and later then moved into Los Angeles to grant a better life for his two sons. Basically, for me, the struggles of Carlos relate to the difficulties that Estrella's family went through.
ReplyDelete2.) The ideas in this text relate to my life because I am a daughter of immigrants and I myself am one. My parents made the choice to move into the U.S to give my siblings and me a much more better and fulfilling life, and I believe it's definitely complicated to change your lifestyle and adapting into a new one, but is what my parents had to accept.
3.) The idea that immigrants come into foreign countries for better opportunities- job and educational wise, is still around today. Especially here in the U.S, now that undocumented students can now apply into the Dream Act program which is an American legislative proposal for a multi-phase process for illegal immigrants in the U.S that will first grant conditional residency and upon meeting further qualifications such as permanent residency.

What I just read reminds me significantly about the novel “The Circuit”. Both stories are told from the child's perspective, they allow the readers to understand what life is like for an immigrant family.
ReplyDeleteWhat I just read reminds me of the stories my parents have shared with me. Just like Estrella my parents at a young age each had to sacrifice things such as a full education and friends to help support their family.
What I just read reminds me of everyday scenarios for a lot of immigrants families. These families make a lot sacrifices in order to better themselves and live the “American Dream”

The novel "Under the Feet of Jesus" reminds me significantly about of the book I read back in grade school "Esperanza Rising." This story also talks about a family who is forced to migrate because of the bad conditions they are put in. Both stories are told by a child's point of view, the most affected by migration so it allows us to get a better understanding of the immigrant life.
ReplyDeleteThis book reminds me very much of my family and I. A few months after I was born my parents decided to migrate to the United States for better opportunities and a better life. Like Estrella's family, we spent most of our time moving from place to place looking to settle down. Like Petra, Estrella's mother, my parents sacrificed many things so they could provide as much as they could for my siblings and I.
This book reminds of what every immigrant in the world is going through. These families move in order to find a better life for themselves and their children. Sacrificing as many things as they go, these families are determined to find what they're looking for no matter the consequences.

1. The beginning of "Under the Feet of Jesus" reminds me a lot of Game of Throne. Estrella misses her father and wonders about him. Likewise, Brann worries about his parents and sisters that left Winterfell for King's Landing
ReplyDelete2. Though my parents can't relate to the struggles of most immigrants, as they had it pretty easy, I connect to Estrella's story through a Colombian friend that fled from right wing paramilitary groups. His dad stayed in Colombia to continue serving FARC. He always wonders about his dad's safety and spirits.
3. The text really reminds me of the current mass migrations out of the Middle East due to the separations of families seen throughout. They make the journey for a better life but they leave part of their families behind.

#1. The beginning of "Under the Feet of Jesus" reminds of a book I read a while back called "Out of the Dust". This book reminds me of it because, so far from what i know, it about a girl dealing with her life and all the problems that come with it.these two books are also similar in the point of view of a young girl.
ReplyDelete#2. I can not really relate to Estrella's story and how her family immigrants, But I can relate to how she ha a big family with lots of siblings. I am always surrounded with family, withe my siblings constantly around.
#3. To me the text relates to the larger world today. I say that because we still have many immigrants that come to America today and it i still an issue today.
1] Through the many ideas of book ,"Under the feet of Jesus" in chapter one they all remind me of another book called,"Y no se lo trago la tierra". The book tells the life of a young boy who lives the life of a migrant farm worker ith his family. Like the young boy, Estrellabhas to face the same "immigrant issues" and as it turns out that life is pretty hard.
ReplyDelete2]A personal experience I could relate to is when Estrella's family was stealing the peaches to sell.Likewise my dad told me a story when he used to do the same thing except he would gather apples from trees from a company who had a field of them that he stumbled upon. Through this my dad was able to gather a little money, but the little helps just like it does to Estrella's family.
3]The idea that relates to "Under the feet of Jesus" in the future is the how immigrants go through struggles. In recent events there has been a candiate who says will bulld a wall along the border of Mexico and by doing this it blocks many immigrants capability of coming to the U.S. While these immigrants are just trying to come over for the possible oppurtinuties for a better life just like how Estrella's family is just trying to live a better life.
1. Chapter 1 of "Under the Feet of Jesus" reminds me of Esperanza Rising because it tells the difficulty of Hispanic/Mexicans and they learn how to adapt in different settings. They both tell of a story of a family moving in order to escape bad conditions.
ReplyDelete2. This book takes me back to the time when I first moved to the U.S., because Estrella and her family and I had to move to a new setting because of bad conditions.
3. After reading chapter 1, I connected it to the way migrants and even immigrants move to get a job in a better setting. Also to how people dropped everything to make a better lofe for theirselves and their kids so they won't have to struggle as much.
1.The first chapter of "Under the Feet of Jesus" reminds me of the novel "Becoming Naomi Leon. This story was about a young girl growing up in a rural town with family hardships and constantly adjusting to new situations as she found herself and who she really was.
ReplyDelete2.These ideas relate to me because I myself grew up in a small rural town from Mexico. My family was somewhat like hers: we all looked out for each other. We didn't move as much as she did, but we did have to adjust to harsh settlements before.
3.The ideas in Under the Feet of Jesus played a major role in our history and is still an issue today. Migration problems and hardship labor aren't as bad as they were a 100 years ago, but they still exist today. Hopefully in the future the world won't be so stingy with borders and or excluding migrants from their countries. Estrella's family searched for a better life, same as many families today. Where they choose to do that or how they will, shouldn't be a problem.

1. Chapter in the book "under the feet of Jesus" reminds me of a movie called "bajo la misma Luna" because both of the main characters are alike. In "under the feet of Jesus" Estrella and her family struggle to maintain themselves and in "bajo la misma Luna" the main character "rafa" a young boy has a difficult time trying to maintain his family too.
ReplyDelete2. This text relates to me due to the fact that I come from immigrants. Both my parents struggled to find a good job to be able to maintain me and my sister. My parents made this choice to move into the U.S to offer us a better life much like Estrellas parents do with her and her siblings.
3. From What I've read so far, this story reminds me alot of the California gold rush. People migrated from all over the world in search of a better life in the new world, they believed the roads were made of gold. In Estrellas case, her family migrates from town to town to find jobs and they were after the "american dream"

1. The novel " under the feet of jesus " , reminds me of the book "the brothers torres " . Just like Estrella , Frankie the main character, goes through a pivotal point in his life and tries to find out who he is and what he wants to do with his life . In both novels the main characters Hispanic background is shown through either references that are in Spanish or the dialogue itself .
ReplyDelete2. The book "under the feet of jesus " reminds of the vast struggle that many immigrant families still face today . Although times have changed, many of these families still move to wherever they can find work to allow their children a better future.
3. The book " under the feet of Jesus " reminds me of my aunt Elena. This book reminds me of my aunt because just like Estrella she was the eldest out of the 9 children , and was always responsible for taking care of her younger siblings.

1. The book "Under the Feet of Jesus" reminded me of a book I read a long time ago named "Muchacho" mainly because they were both based on immigrants. In muchacho, he was a very wise boy and amazing in poetry but never told anyone, he and his family continue to move very often, leaving behind a piece of him everywhere he goes. Quite like in Under the Feet of Jesus, they move from place to place and each time, leave behind a little more than the last time.
ReplyDelete2 I truthfully love my culture and background, and know that my family are all from Mexico and all came here illegally. Also, i have faced family difficulties and for many years i moved between four different places due to my parents having problems, whether it be all 3 of us moving together or just my mom and I, i always continued to move, i was so young and after a while, i didnt even know where I was.
3. The book relates to the real world in many ways. People get divorced everyday, people come to America illegally everyday, children starve everyday, and people go through financial struggled and abuse everyday.
1. "Under the feet of Jesus" is quite similar to a book I've read called "The house on Mango street" although of course the problems and circumstances were different, both, the main character from "The house on mango street" (Esperanza) and Estrella experience the shame of poverty and the unfairness of racism.
ReplyDelete2. Just like Petra my mother has sacrificed so much for me although not in the same way to where we would move constantly or we would have such harsh financial problems, but she did relate in being a single mother who, to me, is one of the hardest thing a mother can go through.
3. Many families sacrifice or are willing to sacrifice many things for those they love, like Estrella's family searching for a better life many many people do, not just here in the US but throughout the world migrating place to place to find better opportunities, live a better life.

1.The ideas from "Under The Feet Of Jesus" reminds me of the movie called McFarland Usa. It is about the children of immmigrants and how they struggle to maintain a living. Where the children have to go to school and wake up early to work on fields picking different stuff.
ReplyDelete2.The ideas from "Under The Feet Of Jesus" remind me of my moms experience growing up. My mom started working at the age of 13 and she would work picking fruits, from oranges to blueberries. She was from a poor family and they struggled to live a steady life.
3.The ideas from the novel relate alot to the larger world. They existed in the past and they still exist. They are actually needed for the economy. They are needed because they (immigrants/migrants) take the jobs for pay lower than minimum wage. They take it because they think they don't have another option and they seek work desperately in order to live.
1. "Under the feet of Jesus" reminds me of a movie called McFarland USA. In the movie a group of kids woke up early in the morning to help pick plants to help provide for the family. After that they would go to a crapy school with poor conditions.
ReplyDelete2. The story reminds me about my dad growing up because when he was little his family was poor and lived in a ranch. My grandpa would make my dad and uncles do a lot of work around the ranch just so they can have enough to food for the kids to eat and my grandma and grandpa would most of the time sleep hungry.
3. There's still a lot of people that struggle economically these days. Just like my dad and many other families. This is because the families come from other places for work and can't find a kid that pays a decent amount, so they take whatever they can and it turns out paying a little bit.
