Homework Things Fall Apart - 1st Period - Due 10/03 A

 From the "Culture" worksheet you made notes about  FIVE aspects of life and how yours are different from Okonkwo and his extended family. 

In a clear, well written paragraph explain what five features of the lifestyle described in the novel are different from your own. If you don't have the handout, the list is below.

   Tradition: how important is tradition in the way you live your life and how important is an understanding of the traditions you live in, compared with what is presented in Okonkwo’s lifestyle?
    Respect: for family, chi (personal god), community, friends and enemies.
    Personal goals and ambitions: write down three of yours and three of Okonkwo’s.What are the differences?
   Relationships: between men and women, adults and children, friends and enemies, black and white.

1) Find the CORRECT  blog post.  For example: This weekend's Homework

2) Click on "0 comments" (or however many comments there are) at the bottom of this post.

3) Either create a new comment or click "reply" to a comment someone else already made on my original post.

4) To ensure you don't accidentally lose any work, write your paragraph in a word doc and then copy and paste into the blog.  SAVE YOUR WORK!

5) In the drop down menu next to "comment as" select "google account."

6) Click "publish."

7) It will take you to a new screen that will prompt you for your gmail username and password.  Either enter one that you have already, OR enter the information from the dummy account I just set up.

If you enter your own username and password, don't worry; you're not giving away any access to your email.  The blog just needs some kind of legitimate (or semi-legitimate) way to recognize you online to allow you to publish.

(1)  Roughly where and when are we to imagine the action of this story taking place?  What are some of the features of the story that we might find more understandable if we take this context into account?

(2)  How would you characterize the narrative point of view of this story?

(3) What do you take to be the central conflict in the story? 

    Follow-up:  what seem to be the deeper issues at stake in this conflict?

(4) At which precise moment does the title concept come into play?

(5) What moment best qualifies as the story's climax?

    Follow-up (5a):  How does noticing this help us decide whether the author has structured the story so as to cast the older daughter, or her mother, as the story's protagonist?

I will be collecting two grades for this assignment.
