Baldwin Persuasive Essay Brainstorm

1. Purchase a personal copy of 1984 by George Orwell and bring it to class 1/30 (A) and/or 1/31 (B)

2. Complete reading questions from "Autobiographical Notes."

3. Complete the "Vocabulary Development Questions on p. 1118 (last page of handout).

4. BRAINSTORM For Persuasive Writing

A. Read the Writing Assignment on p. 1118

B. Choose One statement by Baldwin that resonates with you (see examples if you are confused).

C. List the reasons why is resonates with you (four or five at least). Do You agree or disagree and why? What does it remind you of?

D. Compose an assertion/position statement (a thesis) in reference to the Baldwin quote you have chosen (why it's important to you).

E. BRAINSTORM a list of examples (facts from history, reliable data, current events, books, and or personal experience) that support your position - 

F. Brainstorm at least two reasons people may disagree with you.

COME TO CLASS 1/25 (B) or 1/26 (A) with ALL of these assignments completed. It is an 100 or 0 (no make up) grade.
