8th Period - Found Poetry Due 5/17/17

Found Poetry Assignment.

1. Please complete the poem you began in class making sure you have drawn all the visual reading connections, then take a photo of this and insert it into a word document.


2.   Compose a found poem of 10 – 15 lines from the section of Invisible Man you’ve been assigned.  As with the models “Victim Discovered” and “Why There’s War,” you will want to trace your poem in a similar manner. Title your poem, type it, document the text (as in the example), and document art if you include a photo or painting (also in a manner similar to the aforementioned models).


Include a brief analysis of your process for the poem - what you did, what you hope to achieve, what mood, what point or theme you wanted to bring to light.

Final copy for electronic submission should have:
Pg 1. your assigned found poem and typed version side by side.
Pg 2. photo of your in class practice poem.


Share Document in class folder BEFORE class.

1984 Part One Projects Due 2/27 (B) 2/28 (A)

1984  Project

You will choose ONE of the projects below to display your understanding of the main themes of Part 1 of 1984. All of the assignments ask you to make connections from the novel to your life today - you will analyze the novel by analyzing your own world.

NOTE: All choices require a one-page typed explanation of what you were trying to accomplish with your work. This will be worth 20 points. Failure to turn it in will result in the loss of those 20 points.Check the RUBRICS on the assignment sheet link below.

Remember to completely read your assignment Sheet: 1984 Project. The Poster Projects for #2 has specific Newspeak criteria that must be met. Similarly if you choose a poster for #3, remember that you are required to include multiple faces, quotes, ans connect them in a logical manner.  They Should both be thorough and visually interesting.  
Assignments #1 and #3 are best based in Multimedia because it is a medium you use on a daily basis.

 When they are complete, please share them (and the written paper) to your class folder in the DRIVE:  
make sure your names are on your file label.

Baldwin Persuasive Essay Brainstorm

1. Purchase a personal copy of 1984 by George Orwell and bring it to class 1/30 (A) and/or 1/31 (B)

2. Complete reading questions from "Autobiographical Notes."

3. Complete the "Vocabulary Development Questions on p. 1118 (last page of handout).

4. BRAINSTORM For Persuasive Writing

A. Read the Writing Assignment on p. 1118

B. Choose One statement by Baldwin that resonates with you (see examples if you are confused).

C. List the reasons why is resonates with you (four or five at least). Do You agree or disagree and why? What does it remind you of?

D. Compose an assertion/position statement (a thesis) in reference to the Baldwin quote you have chosen (why it's important to you).

E. BRAINSTORM a list of examples (facts from history, reliable data, current events, books, and or personal experience) that support your position - 

F. Brainstorm at least two reasons people may disagree with you.

COME TO CLASS 1/25 (B) or 1/26 (A) with ALL of these assignments completed. It is an 100 or 0 (no make up) grade.
