    1. The ideas in the text remind me of many other texts and songs because of the type of mood that it seems to be portraying. Estrella speaking of her father leaving, makes the audience sympathize with her and what she is feeling. Many songs now have many messages portraying this idea using both personal experience and what it is that they see happening around them, which helps the audience grab the idea.

    2. Estrella's personal experience makes you think. It makes you reflect back on your own life to see if you have gone through anything similar to her. The ideas help me relate to my life by better understanding hers. Loss is something I've been though, and with her flashbacks we get exactly what she felt and how she is coping with it.

    3. The ideas in the text relate to the larger world through broken families. Both back then and now families tend to fall apart when one of the two parents leaves everyone behind and leaves the spouse with everything to take control over. It makes their lives a lot harder both family and economy wise. The children have a harder time coping with the idea that one of their parents is no longer there. This has happened for many years now, and Estrella's way of telling it makes us better understand her position and how she feels about it.

  3. 1) The book "Under The Feet of Jesus reminds me of the book "And the Earth Did Not Devour Him". They are both about Immigrants and both of the main characters lifestyles have many similarities. Both books are about the lifestyles of immigrants, low wages, and poverty they face through in their journeys.

    2) What i read reminded me of my childhood, and it also made me think of it, but not only that. It also reminded me of some experiences as well. It reminded me of some of my family members which traveled to the U.S. in hope of a better future and life, for both them and they're family. In the book it also talks about the memories Estrella has with her dad. I too, have very great memories of family members that are no longer with me.
    3) This related to the outside world where Mexican moved to better places in seek of a better jobs, and a better lifestyle. It signifies the hope and faith people have for a better world to live in.

  4. 1.) the book under the feet of Jesus remind me of a song by K. Michelle . She was abandoned by her husband raising a son by her self . She had to figure out ways to survive .
2.)what I read in this book, Estrella challenges relates to how I use to feel . I lost so many things in my life that I use to just think about giving up on . Estrella is just like me very strong through it all .
3.) the ideas in the text relate to the larger world because of al the divorces and adopting and lost of families . There so many situation in the world where mother and father tend to split and cause the child to pick who they want to live with . Estrella is dealing with the same situation any body else in this world is dealing with .

  6. 1. The ideas in this text are different than the ideas in “Coal Miner’s Daughter” because the father stays and helps provide for his family.
    2. I understand what I have just read, even though I have never experienced it myself, because of the large number of families that go through hard times and have to take drastic measures to survive.
    3. What I have just read makes me wonder about the future because of the improvement in the number of jobs available in the United States.

1)The book under the feet of Jesus gives the sense of a immigrant coming to America and wanting a new change in her life. The author uses sympathy to attract the audience in by feeling sorry for the loss of her father. But also that they're beginning a new life coming to work.

    2) This affects me greatly, because I'm growing up with my mother having to support me, and trying to make it on one person salary. Having to make sacrifices to remain okay with money and having somewhere to live.

    3) Many people have come to America in search of a new start. They've longed for a sense of belonging in their world and needing work to sustain themselves.

  9. 1. What I just read reminds me of "Family Portrait" by Alecia Moore where Alecia sings about how she doesn't want her father to leave and her mother to cry. This can relate to what Estrella faces and feels in Under the Feet of Jesus.

    2. The text can relate to the friends I have who face issues in terms of unstable income and domestic relationships. I've seen many who have had to live in less stable houses or had their fathers move away, but nothing as extreme as what Estrella faces.

    3. What I read makes me think about the families that move out from my neighborhood due to their homes just being completely unstable or because the city kicks them out. Although I have no insight into their daily lives, it's something I see that sets a burden on my neighborhood when some of the families have to move out.

  10. 1.) The book, Under the Feet of Jesus, reminds me personally of Bible stories, such as Exodus, where Isreal suffered many hardships and struggles, yet God stayed with Israel and they always survived.
2.) Estrella constantly relats to me in the story, because she reminds me about how, even though life is harder being a Christian than it was when I wasn't, and that I have even encountered heavy losses and struggles, I just have faith, and lean to God and make it through.
3.) This story relates to the world at large with the current near destruction of the family as how Estrella's is very much broken. Single parent families are at an all time high, and even the very definition of"family" and "marriage" are being challenged, and taken from God's definition, to our fallen one.

  11. 1. The ideas in the text remind me of many books and songs that I have heard and read. One song for example is "Los Mandados" by Vicente Fernandez. It talks about what the immigrants face in their journey to the United States.
    2. I can relate to this first chapter of the book because one of my sisters name is Perla. I also once got in a fight when I was little like Estrella did with Maxine. My moms dad left when she was young, that is another way it connects to my life.
    3. When I read this first part of the story it reminded me of how immigrant families use to and still come to the United States. This is still probably going to happen in the future, unless trump becomes the president or congress does something about this situation.

  13. 1.The ideas in this text are similar to the ideas in the movie “The Harvest” because they are both about migrant workers working on farms. The movie focuses on how children and their families work long hours and as they support themselves.
2.I agree with/understand what I just read because in my own life, my family has gone through that situation. My grandparents never left Guatemala because they never had the opportunity, but then my dad left to have a better future and to help my grandparents. He worked and even went back to school, to gives us an example and not have to face the struggles he faced.
3.What I just read makes me think about how much people sacrifice themselves to come to the United States because they want a better life.

1)The novel Under The Feet Of Jesus is related to the movie "Cesar Chavez". They are similar in ways such as farm workers struggles, financial issues, and family situations.
2)I am mostly related to the character Estrella. Even though her father left the family in a depressing way, she still remembers the good memories she shared with her father. The first thought that fills her mind when reminded of her father is peeling oranges. As for myself, I don't like to mourn a lot when it came to a death in the family. I don't like to remember my loved one in a casket, lifeless, instead I remember them when they were in their happiest mood.
    3) The novel relates to the farm labor era which was mostly in California, and Florida. Cesar Chavez, Co-founder of the "United Farm Workers" or UFW believed in better payments for harsh labor. He, along with many Hispanics, as well as Filipinos, boycotted table grapes as a sign of peaceful protest. In the novel, after Estrella's father left, her family began having financial issues. This led to her family moving back to the labor fields.

  16. 1.)in this novel, the author uses sympathy to relate to relate to us and estrella's father leaving remind me of a book called "dear Zoe". they both face hardship and the absence of their biological father.
2.)the ideas in this text reminded me of my life living in a third world country because i got to see the hardship my friend's were going through, sometimes, my family.
3.)this novel relates to the world of broken families that has gone through divorce. it shows how it affects the family as a whole. it also takes us deeper into the lives of an immigrant country, trying so hard survive in a new country.

    - Under the Feet of Jesus reminds me of the movie "Australia". They both deal with the hardships of being immigrants and having to be without certain family members.
    Text to Self

    1. The ideas of Under the feet of Jesus remind me of the book, The Watsons go to Birmingham considering that both families travel.
    2. I can relate to Estrella because we are both teenage girls who look after our siblings. And we both are on the discovery of finding our identity.
    3. The book deals with real world issues such as poverty, starvation and injuries.

  19. 1. The book "Under the Feet of Jesus" reminded me of a book I read a long time ago named "Muchacho" mainly because they were both based on immigrants. In muchacho, he was a very wise boy and amazing in poetry but never told anyone, he and his family continue to move very often, leaving behind a piece of him everywhere he goes. Quite like in Under the Feet of Jesus, they move from place to place and each time, leave behind a little more than the last time.
2 I truthfully love my culture and background, and know that my family are all from Mexico and all came here illegally. Also, i have faced family difficulties and for many years i moved between four different places due to my parents having problems, whether it be all 3 of us moving together or just my mom and I, i always continued to move, i was so young and after a while, i didnt even know where I was.
    3. The book relates to the real world in many ways. People get divorced everyday, people come to America illegally everyday, children starve everyday, and people go through financial struggled and abuse everyday.

  20. 1.The book UTFOJ reminds me of the movie "instructions not included" because its about how one of the parents tries really hard to take care of his daughter while the daughter starts to notice her mothers absence in her life and she starts to get depressed because of that.
    2. The story relates to my life by reminding me of some of my friends families where there parents are divorced and even though they dont show it, they miss there real parents being together.
    3. I believe that the story relates to the world by connecting to the immigrant families crossing the borders looking for a better future even though there are many risks.

  22. 1. The chapter itself reminds me of an old book called "a series of unfortunate events" where the protagonist's are a group of siblings and are hunted down by a man wanting their heir fortune.
2.the chapter reminds me of myself when I was younger, three years ago my family faced a similar situation with my step-dad, he was always gone and asking for money, till at one point he left and never communicated
3.the chapter reminds me a little of the past and what it used to be like for the poor, how they were struggling for money or how they were living in camps

  24. 1) The beginning of this story reminds me of a movie I've seen called "Southbound". It's about a group of souls that belong to people who have recently died and are trapped on a never ending highway in purgatory. They are pegged with various challenges that they would have faced when they were alive. Based on how they perform on these events, their fate is determined. Send them to hell, or heaven. Estrella and her family going down this highway reminded me of "Southbound" & unfortunately it had a bad outcome like in the movie, hard labor.
    2) I can relate my reading so far to my life on a learning basis. Estrella & her family are traveling to find better living conditions, but doesn't necessarily work out in their favor. Trying to escape demons and things that hold you back is tough, and sometimes it doesn't always work in our favor. But that doesn't mean give up, you have to persevere and keep going.
3)The events that are taking place in the story so far are closely related to a few issues in our past history such as slavery & segregation. But this is relating to the world now, by immigration & immigration laws. People are looking for freedom, but are pegged to work in the fields and are automatically pinned down to racism

  25. 1. What I just read reminds me of the movie McFarland USA, where mexican-american migrant workers must work in a field while maintaining a family. Although the movie mainly focuses on kids developing a good cross country team, the movie shows the struggles that the kids and families have to go through while working as migrant workers out in the fields.
    2. In my own life, I can relate to how Estrella only had distant memories of her father and they were all good because I see it that way with some of my family members that are not with me anymore.
    3. This relates to the outside world where Mexicans move to better places in seek of a better jobs and a better lifestyle. It signifies the faith people have for a better world.

  26. The ideas from the text remind me a Pretty little liars because there were many times when someone was abounded and who felt lonely. Estrella discusses how her father left her and it was a very emotional part of the story.
2.Her personal experiences relate to many of the people in the US , a lot of people are going through the same thing and having to cope with something they have no control over.
3.This relates to the larger world because being illegal and getting a divorce is very common now a days. You cant do anything about it , except to deal with it. in a marriage the husband and wife must be on the same page and if there not then they would have to do whats best for each other

    Chapter 4
1.The book reminded me of the movie "Under the Same Moon" where the kid is in Mexico and his mother is in USA , she is there to make money and send it to her son but he need a better life style and go to USA to find her , just like Estrella finds a better lifestyle in U.S.A

2.The story relates to my life , by the money issue the family has , just like my family we have always had problem looking for good jobs so my parents can make good money to give us ,their children a good life style . & Also relates to my life because there have been a good amount of problem I have faced and have realized that religion will not help , you have to take rational action and make a effort to make a chamge.

3.The world is a very discriminated place by the skin of your color or the ethnicity you were raised in , just as immigration is very rough to face when coming into a country you didn't not have permission to come in , just like my parents.

  29. TEST MAKE UP
    1. The ideas of self sufficiency, paving one's own future, and defying adversity remind me of a classic superhero movie, where the victim (Alejo) is in distress, and the family, through lack of money, resources and numerous other problems, have to "come to his rescue", with even using extreme methods, like Estrella and the crowbar, being used to accomplish their goals of saving one of their own.
    2. The ideas in this novel remind me of my life, by how before becoming a Christian, I operated "on my own", doing whatever I wanted to do, or what I thought I "needed", but my actions always came futile before God, so in a way, the opposite of the novel's morals happened in my life.
3.The text connects to the world by how immigration is a problem worldwide, with the Syrian refugee crisis, and how many immigrants are right here at home, most facing challenges, and the threat of deportation on a daily basis.

  30. The book reminds me of this other book ive read called esperanza rising.after living in mexico she moves to the U.S because of her corrupt family and has to work in concemtration camps

2the main character estrella reminds me of how i started to make my own decisions instead of relying on this god that everyone puts all their faith into.
